Taeyeon Is Chilling Out This Weekend

I have a question for you guys. Do you guys fantasize about what to do with your weekend or do you not bother? Sometimes it’s stressful to come up with activities to do because I don’t want to squander my time. I think Taeyeon captured in her latest release the essence of my thoughts whenever the weekend comes. Shall we take a closer look at the lyrics for “Weekend”?

Taeyeon sets the tone for thinking about the weekend.

I think city pop is the perfect genre for a song like this. It’s got a relaxing groove while still hopping on the retro 80s craze that kpop is on right now. To add to the mood, Taeyeon’s singing is buffered by these repeated syllables. You can hear the excitement in her voice. Also, how cute was her rap? I like to think that the second verse was meant to be sung, but the producers asked if she was willing to rap it instead. You may have noticed that the rap also uses the repeated syllables near the end. It’s only speculation, though.

There are no plans so it’s a perfect plan.

When your schedule is free and the weather is nice, your mind goes to a happy place thinking about all the things you could do with that time. That is the basic premise behind the lyrics for “Weekend.”

The moment I set my eyes on the season outside the window
The spilling sunlight knocks on my heart
As I ride the gentle wind that beckons me

In particular, whenever the weather is bright and sunny, I always feel compelled to go out. I mean, I don’t mind rain either (I am from Canada after all). Obviously, the pandemic has made going out a little difficult, but at least the sunshine motivates me to be productive.

Then I looked at my watch
And saw that it’s already 12 o’clock
But I’m still taking my time

Part of the reason why this article came out late is because I’ve been waking up later than usual. Contrary to Taeyeon, I literally panicked when I woke up at noon this week. I’m just not the type of person who likes to sleep in on my days off. I would rather spend time doing something fun instead of lazing about. But the problem is that if I worry too much about using my time wisely, weekend plans become a chore. It’s usually best if I don’t think about it and let the weekend happen.
