Megan’s K-Dreams Is No More?

Hello, people of the Internet. I must tell you some unfortunate news: I am changing the name of my website. No longer will I call you k-dreamers. I mean, that’s the main difference. Most of the content will be the same. I will have to change the appearance of the website and rebrand everything, but I’ll still be talking about the same stuff. In this article, I plan to go into detail about why I’m changing the name of my website.

Reason #1: Less is more.

Surprise! This is also a recap of what I did this summer. Funny enough, I spent my summer contributing to another person’s website. It was part of an internship organized by my university. On top of that, I helped draft Instagram posts, recorded podcast episodes, and I now own my first vinyl record. But working on the website took up a large part of my internship, so I’m gonna talk mainly about that. If you don’t run your own website, I might lose you here, but I’ll try to put it in simple terms.

When I looked at my employer’s website, from the front-end and from the back-end, everything looked so straightforward. The website doesn’t use many plugins (especially after I got rid of the redundant ones) and your eyes go in one direction when looking at the pages. I can’t the say the same about my own website. I have so many plugins and I don’t remember what half of them do. Often I installed plugins because one of the other plugins suggested I do so. And if I’m being honest, I’ve been wanting to get rid of the big scary banner that pops up when you load my homepage (sorry if any of you still think it’s cool). This internship was the signal I needed to pare down my website.

Reason #2: Is this a kpop blog?

Another big glaring issue with my website is that it sounds very misleading. Imagine: it’s Eurovision season. I post on social media that there is a new article. The Eurovision fans come to my website and see the name “Megan’s K-Dreams”. If I were them, I’d start second-guessing myself. Did I come to the right website? Am I getting scammed? You’re not. I’m just a doofus.

The reason I originally named my blog “Megan’s K-Dreams” is because I aspired to become a composer for the kpop industry. While I still want that dream to become a reality, I realize that it’s quite restrictive. Honestly, I’d be happy to be a composer for any music industry that would have me. Also, to put it bluntly, people don’t come to this website for me. They come for my opinions about kpop and the Eurovision Song Contest, so the name of my website should reflect that. At the very least, I shouldn’t have chosen a name that suggests I only talk about kpop.

Oh na na, what’s my name?

I’ve been teasing my new website name in some places already. HINT: it’s the name of my Spotify playlist and I’ve already rebranded my Patreon. I hope I’m not being too ambitious, but I have also started thinking about videos I can post to YouTube along with my usual blog content, as well as exclusive Patreon articles and a newsletter sign-up. I don’t plan to enact these changes until next year, so I will have plenty of time to think things through. That being said, I should warn you that my website will be unavailable in the month of December so I can rebrand everything. Thanks for supporting me through all of this. Take care!

As much as it hurt
